June 2020 Meeting Notes

Well the first Zoom meeting of Watergap Woodturners is now history having been successfully completed albeit consisting of only four members.  The attendees were Rick, Mike, Joe and yours truly.  The following was discussed:

1. Treasurers report from Rick offers some good news on the financial front.  We have $905 and that is after payment in full of the insurance premium.  Rick is going to contact the insurer to explore the possibility of reducing the premium due to the pandemic.  Will report back on how that plays out.

2.  It turns out that Mike Peacock has an extensive background in software development so he is going to look into rehabilitating our club website which has been inactive since about 2015.  He is now authorized to proceed as necessary.  Steve, he will be contacting your for certain essential information which he will need to undertake the process.

3.  Since  we will not have the PV workshop available to do our “toys fore tots” event, it was suggested that each club member take on the responsibility to create two each of the tops, magic wands and ball catchers for presentation in December.  We established that as a minimum so if anyone would like to provide any additional toys, feel free.  The plan is to collect them all at the December meeting and I will deliver them to Project Self Sufficiency as I did last year.

4.  We discussed plans for future meetings and whether or not they would be in person or via Zoom.  It was decided to put these alternatives out to the membership and get feedback as to the preference of each member.  Please be sure to get back to me on this indicating your choice as “in person” or “Zoom”.

5.  I mentioned that New Jersey Woodturners has embarked on a program, via Zoom, called “mini -clinics”, during which a member does a presentation of a technique, tool, process, embellishment, etc. of interest to the club.  Each mini-clinic lasts about a half hour and the presenter remains available to answer any question.  For example, Steve Antonucci did a mini-clinic on the creation of a home-made hollowing device, which was well received.  If you think this might be a good alternative for us during this tine of the pandemic, let me know.  Of course volunteers are more than welcome.  Step forward if you think you might have something to present.
Stay well and stay tuned
